The Meaning Behind Our Name

The name Clear Skies Counseling was inspired by my time serving in the U.S. Air Force. During my career, I had the privilege of working alongside dedicated service members, their families, and amazing individuals from around the world. In aviation, the phrase “clear skies and tailwinds” is often used as a farewell, wishing someone a safe journey, calm skies, and favorable winds that allow them to reach their destination quickly. I chose this name to bring that same spirit of hope and support into the counseling space.

But, there’s also some irony in the name. As any pilot or Texan knows, the most beautiful skies, the ones filled with rich colors and striking sunsets, often appear just after storms or are partially obscured by clouds. I find that life is the same. We may strive for clarity and calm, but it’s often our struggles and imperfections that shape who we are and give us depth and meaning.

Clear Skies Counseling was built on that belief: that healing doesn’t mean perfection and that growth often comes through life’s messier moments. Whether you’re navigating a personal storm or simply seeking more clarity in your life, we’re here to walk alongside you.

Understanding the Therapy Process

The First Sessions

Early sessions focus on getting to know you. What your goals are, your story, and what’s bringing you in. You’ll have space to share at your own pace while your therapist begins to build a deeper understanding of your strengths, struggles, and hopes for change. Together, you’ll start identifying what matters most and how therapy can support your growth.

You will also talk about the therapy process, including how we’ll work together to address your needs. It’s a safe, open space for you to start your journey toward healing and growth.

Confidentiality

Privacy is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Your personal feelings, stories, and history are yours to share, and we prioritize keeping your sessions secure and private. Before your first session, you will review a disclosure statement outlining informed consent and the confidentiality guidelines.

While your privacy is paramount, there are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, if abuse is disclosed, or if a court subpoenas information. In these cases, we will make every effort to protect your rights and inform you beforehand.

Understanding the Duration of Therapy

The length of therapy can vary depending on your individual needs, goals, and the challenges you’re facing. Some people may see progress in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Generally, therapy can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months, or even longer for deeper, more complex issues.

Together, you and your therapist will set goals and regularly check in on your progress to determine the best pace for you. It’s important to remember that therapy is a journey, and the focus is on your growth and well-being, not a set timeframe.

Your Voice Matters

Your voice is essential in therapy. It’s your thoughts, feelings, and experiences that guide the process. You decide what to focus on, what feels important, and what goals you want to achieve, with your therapist offering support along the way.

Your feedback also shapes the direction of therapy. If something isn’t working or you want to try a different approach, you can speak up. This collaboration ensures therapy remains aligned with your needs, creating a safe, supportive space for your growth.
